From Tokyo, Hakone is the closest Onsen (hot spring) resort, but this scenic area also has museums and art galleries. A ropeway trip to the top of Mount Hakone will give you spectacular views of the surrounding countryside as well as other attractions.

Photo_Ashinoko_PirateshipOften regarded as the primary attraction of Hakone, Lake Ashi allows for boat rides and hikes. The Suginamiki-Kaido trail is ideal for viewing the reflected Mount Fuji from. Although clear views are rare, usually in the very early and late hours, the sight is sure to be unforgettable.

There are walking trails past geysers and bubbling pools at which you can make your own onsen tamago, boiled eggs, which are said to have life prolonging effects.

Hakone Tozan Train from Hakone-Yumoto Sta. to Gora Sta., and change to cable car to Sounzan Sta. From Sounzan Sta. take the ropeway to Owakudani Sta.

About 100 contemporary and classical sculptures by great masters are shown in this outdoor museum. They have on site, a huge children’s playground, chapel and more that will entertain you for an entire day.
