Eisa (エイサー) is a traditional Okinawan dance festival, which takes place around the Obon holidays. In 1956, when Koza City (present-day Okinawa City) was established, this event began as an Eisa dance competition. Since then it has evolved into a festival representing Okinawan culture. Every year, more than 300,000 people come to see the event, with one of the highlights being the island wide Eisa dance competition on Sunday, the final day of the festival. There is a beer festival right next door to the dance venue, allowing for late evenings and an entertaining end to the day.
