The Early Years section at The British School in Tokyo (BST) incorporates both Nursery (entry at 3 years old) and Reception (entry at 4 years old) classes. Maximum class size is 20. Each class has one teacher and one education assistant.
Children are nurtured to develop as creative, resilient and independent learners, and supported to think critically and explore through play as play is the way in which children learn. Teachers continuously assess their progress, thus adjusting learning to meet each child’s individual needs.
A high quality Early Years provision, like that at BST, leads to improved academic results further up the school, better career opportunities and improved physical and emotional health as students grow into adulthood.
BST provides a ‘through’ education for students aged 3 to 18 year olds. Children at 5 years old will automatically join Year 1 and are potentially able to stay to Year 13 when they are 18 years old before leaving for university.
